MOFA Attestation Islamabad *Apostille & Embassy Legalisation*

Before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) attests or apostilles a Pakistani document, the document must first be verified by its issuing authority: HEC for university degrees, IBCC for Matric/Intermediate certificates, Union Council or NADRA for civil documents, and so on. MOFA works by appointment through its apostille portal, and attests documents in English or Urdu only.

Process

How it works

    Tell us the document and the country it is for.

    Complete pre-verification, then book a MOFA appointment on the apostille portal.

    Submit originals at MOFA Islamabad (or a camp office) or via an authorised courier.

Which documents need HEC attestation before MOFA?

University degrees. Medical degrees also need the Ministry of National Health Services. Matric and Intermediate certificates go to IBCC instead.

What is needed to attest a Nikah Nama?

The original Nikah Nama signed and stamped by the Nikah Registrar, the NADRA Marriage Registration Certificate, and the bride's CNIC with her husband's name or a NADRA FRC/CRC.

Does MOFA accept walk-ins?

MOFA works by appointment through its apostille portal. Authorised courier companies can also submit documents.

Can MOFA attest a domicile certificate?

No. Domicile, photographs, invitation letters, visa notes and land registry papers are listed as non-attestable.

Which languages does MOFA attest?

English and Urdu. Translations should show English in one column alongside the other language on the same page.

Do attestations expire?

Attestations of permanent documents such as birth certificates, Nikah Nama, educational certificates and NADRA documents remain valid.
